Seat
This module combines all the visual communication skills and construction knowledge throughout the subject so far, and aims to apply the materials and structural systems in a creative context. Using two materials and elements; timber boards, and steel support, I designed a bench that serves to achieve comfort and versatility.
Process
Sketch
First of all, the plan is sketched on paper, where the vision is recorded. However, the initial design will be further refined and corrected in the next step when factors of efficiency and constructability are considered.
Initial draft
In the next step, the model is built in Rhino according to the plan. For efficiency and practicality, I have removed the timber boards from the ceiling and spaced them out. On top of that, the placement of the seat has also been changed.
Refinement
With more research and experimentation, I made major changes to the material selection. I took away concrete completely to reduce weight burden, and replaced them with steel frames instead. On top of that, I changed the steel roofing into an arbor, using reinforced steel frames and bars.
