Celebrating the Art of Brickwork
For this module, I designed an 's'-shaped wall with one large opening and many smaller openings. In terms of design, I used standard solid bricks, half solid bricks, extruded bricks, as well as cut extruded bricks. I included stretcher courses, header courses, and brick-on-edge courses to create intricate patterns in my brickwork. I also analysed the site and took into consideration of the ground conditions and the natural growths in the surrounding area.
Process
Site Analysis
First of all, the site conditions and surrounding areas are thoroughly analysed in terms of plant growth and lighting.
Sketch plan
Next, the precise measurements, from openings to lintel sizes, are planned and drafted on paper before realising it on Rhino.
Building in Rhino
The elements of the site are marked on the canvas for reference, then the basic structure of the wall is laid out.
With the base developed, details are then refined, including the strip footing, masonry patterns, openings, and lintels.
Exporting to Indesign
Finally, I exported the plan, elevation, section, and hero drawings onto inDesign by setting up cutting planes, then added annotations and dimensions.
