Way-finding System:
Potter Museum of Art

The main goals of this project are to transform the Potter Museum of Art into a welcoming and inviting environment, with a special focus on the students at the University of Melbourne; introducing a strategy for managing the consistency of traffic flow; while revolutionising the conventional way-finding system to create an immersive experience for visitors.

A series of pictograms is developed and an accompanying typeface, Puffin Display Soft is chosen to create a minimal, succinct and coherent way-finding system. An isometric map is then made based on the pictograms which will be printed on the wall of each floor to help visitors visualise their journey through the museum. Through making use of the wall and floor space to incorporate the pictograms into the environment, traffic flow and touch points can be controlled as the interior signage would be more visible and eligible, thus assisting navigation. In a similar sense, footprints are placed on the outside of the museum pointing to the main entrance alongside the exterior signage to bring attention to visitors and passerbys.
